TOY SWAP SHOP – 1st and 2nd and 5th to 7th December

Toy Swap Shop Poster for drop-off locations POSB

What is this all about?

When & where?

Happening at St Paul’s Centre

10:30am to 11:00am Toy Swap Shop (quiet half-hour for children with sensory difficulties)

11:00am to 2:00pm Big Toy Swap Shop

What is this about? We are asking children to swap toys rather than buy new this Christmas. Parents and children are encouraged to drop off any unwanted toys to a drop-off centre and receive a token for each toy. Children can use the tokens at the St Paul’s Centre in exchange for any new toy! The Toy Swap Shop helps reduce waste and cut carbon emissions associated with the production and transportation of new toys.

Why? This is being organised by the Sustainability and Climate Change Engagement team as part of the Carbon Neutral Roadmap’s promoting low-carbon lifestyles policy.

It aims to keep toys in circulation and out of the waste stream.

  • A survey of parents discovered that, on average, a child loses interest in a toy within just 36 days;
  • It is estimated that UK children have an average of four toys they’ve never even played with – which could add up to which could add up to 36,468 unused toys in Jersey;
  • A survey by the British Heart Foundation revealed that, more than a quarter of UK parents admit to discarding toys that are in perfect condition.
