Summer Restrictions for Dogs

SUMMER RESTRICTIONS FOR DOGS

Dog owners are reminded the summer restrictions on Jersey beaches are now in force as of 1 May 2024.

The restrictions mean that all dogs must be kept on a lead on the beach between the hours of 10.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. Horse-riding is also prohibited on the beach between these hours. The restrictions apply from 1 May to 30 September.

With more people likely to be out and about enjoying the beaches and countryside over the bank holiday weekend all Chefs de Police are asking dog owners and horse-riders to consider other beach users.

Chairman of the Comité des Chefs de Police said

The Comité des Chef de Police wishes to remind dog owners, in particular, that as of Wednesday 1 May they must ensure their dog is kept on a lead if on the beach between 10.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.

With sunrise now at 5.45 a.m. and sunset at 8.30 p.m. there are plenty of daylight hours to walk your dog on the beach off the lead.

Dog owners must also clean up after their dog and this applies not only to beaches but also to parks, sand dunes, footpaths and roads.

There are frequently complaints about dog faeces and owners must clean up after their dogs and dispose of the litter in one of the many waste bins provided around the island. If you can’t find a bin then take the litter home with you – don’t discard the bag in the hedge or trees.

A fine of up to £1,000 can be imposed for breaching the summer restrictions and for not cleaning up after your dog.
