Can I vote in a Public Election?
You may vote in a Public Election if your name is on the Electoral Register which is used for that election.
You are entitled to be registered to vote if you are ordinarily resident in Jersey and are or will, within 3 months, be
- 16 years old or over and
- have lived in the Island for either:
- Option A – the last 12 months or
- Option B – the last 6 months plus additional period(s) that total at least 5 years.
You may cast your vote on polling day, or use the pre-poll or postal voting options.
How is my name added to the register?
With effect from 24 March 2026, the names and addresses of those who are entitled to vote will automatically be added to the Electoral Register. This is based on information held by the Government of Jersey which is passed to your Parish in accordance with the Elections (Jersey) Law 2002.
How do I check that my name is on the Electoral Register and what should I do if I am not registered or my details are incorrect?
Call your Parish Hall to check that your name is included on the Electoral Register (address/contact details and office hours are on this website).
If your name is not included but you are entitled to be registered, or your details are incorrect, please notify your Parish using the form below.
What if I change my address?
If you change your address you must notify the Parish. Use the change my name or address online service or complete and return the PDF form.
All information you give us must be correct otherwise you may not be eligible to vote. Please also inform the Government of Jersey of your correct details (name, address, residence).
If you are moving away from Jersey you can complete an online form to notify your Parish, States of Jersey departments as well as your GP surgery (only if you want). For more information and the online form please take a look at gov.je/LeavingJersey.
Is the Electoral Register available for inspection?
The Electoral Register is NOT available for public inspection but a copy is provided to candidates in an election. You can choose to opt out of the candidates’ list if you do not want candidates to see your name and address – see below.
Can my name be omitted from the Electoral Register or the candidates’ list?
No, the Register automatically includes the names and addresses of those who are entitled to vote based on information held by the Government of Jersey. The Register is no longer a public document but is made available to candidates in an election.
You may opt-out of the candidates’ list by notifying your Parish in writing – use the ‘Electoral Register’ form above.
- Your details will still appear on the electoral register and you can vote.
- Your opt-out will remain if you move address in Jersey.
- Your opt-out will be removed if you move away from Jersey.
- You may opt-in again at any time by notifying your Parish of your decision.
